Record crowds of over 4000 were witnessed yesterday at the 4th
annual Stoneygate Christmas Market, in association with Knighton Ward.
Bargain hunters flocked to Allandale Road and Francis Street
in the Leicester suburb of Stoneygate, eager to pick up some unique and unusual
Christmas gifts that can’t be found on the High Street. From homemade venison pies to handcrafted
crow garden ornaments, there was a definite theme of the homemade amongst the
45 market stalls and retailers.
Organiser, Carey York of FU Media commented; “I’m absolutely
thrilled that the market has been such a success this year. It’s been a record-breaking year all-round:
from the stall holders and retailers – who have been brilliant – to the
crowds. It’s great to see that on a
weekend that is celebrating independent traders, that so many came out to
support this independent market”.
As well as festive treats and bargains, the crowds were
entertained by Lizzy Rushby, who performed a Christmas set inspired by songs of
yesteryear; the children’s’ choirs from Leicester High School for Girls and
rounded-off by the fantastic Kaine gospel choir.
